Device/Pipe/Cloud, Delivering IoT in a Virtualized World.

William Walker
Huawei Technologies Co.,Ltd.
Principal Architect, ICT Convergent
Solutions
Carrier Business Group, Huawei
  • [sponsors] HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES JAPAN K.K.

SummarySummary

“The Cloud” began the trend towards virtualization in IT. Now Networks are virtualizing through SDN and NFV technologies. In the future, we see the Internet of Things aggregating and correlating the data around us to create virtual views of a person, place, or thing. My home becomes a set of datapoints. I become a set of datapoints. The soft-links between people (communities, families, etc.), places (neighborhoods, communities, cities, and things (logistics, fleet tracking, traffic lights) can be soft-linked across their own domains to create smart cities, smart nations, and smart industries, All of this can be accelerated and managed through smarter and virtualized networks with SDN, NFV, analytics-driven management, and the personal touch of self-service and self-management of privacy and autonomy. At Huawei, we call this convergence of trends “SoftCOM”.

BioBio

William Walker is Principal Architect for ICT Convergent Solutions in the Carrier Business Group’s Solution Management Department, and has over 25 years of experience in Enterprise, IT, and Systems Architecture. Strategy Digital Austria

Christian RUPP
Federal Chancellery of the Republic of Austria Federal Platform Digital Austria
Vice-President, Global Sales Engineering
  •

SummarySummary

The Federal Platform Digital Austria is the coordination and strategy committee of the Austrian Federal Government for ICT (Information and Communication Technology) this includes eGovernment as well as eHealth. Digital services are a synonym for a modern and innovative state in which quality, trust and speed are central elements. Communication is made easier for citizens and businesses, costs are lowered and at the same time internal processes are sped up substantially. The quality and transparency of public services is increased considerably to the benefit of all. Above all, however, eGovernance is also a lever to increase the transparency of state activities and to intensify the democratic participation of the citizens.
The development and implementation of electronic public services is one of the priorities of the Digital Agenda of the Austrian Federal Government. Efficiency in the back office is guaranteed by process reengineering, common standards and an interoperability framework. As a general rule of the Austrian digital strategy, every citizen in every community should have access to all forms of public digital services at the federal, provincial and local levels. Secure communication and procedures and confidential handling of personal data have top priority. Therefore everybody needs an electronic identity and electronic signature.
Technology is changing our live and work day by day therefore a Digital Agenda has to include not only eGovernment and eHealth but also eSkills (digital literacy), broadband access, eCommerce, Cyber Security, Internet 4.0 (internet of things), research and development.
Austria has been at the forefront for many years in this sector. The diverse efforts and leading digital initiatives of the Austrian government have been awarded time and again with the top position in the most important comparison on the European level but also within the United Nations.
ICT is the driving force for growth, employment and competitiveness. Austria is well known worldwide for tourism or music but our ICT industry brings already six times more to our GDP than tourism. The Austrian business landscape is characterised by innovative small and medium-sized enterprises in the field of technology, by dynamic growth in company set-ups, by rising direct investments, and as a hub especially to Eastern and South Eastern Europe.

BioBio

Mr. RUPP was appointed as the “Federal Executive Secretary” for the eGovernment initiative of the Austrian Federal Government in 2003. Since 2005 he acts also as the “Spokesperson of the Federal Platform Digital Austria”, which coordinates the ICT and eGovernment activities for the Federal Government within and outside the Republic. Many Austrian eGovernment applications and strategies have been provided since 2003 with the UN Public Service Award as well as other international awards. “Digital Austria” has now built up with many countries around the world a know-how and technology transfer program in the ICT sector.
